BEVERLY I 54 & enjoying the beginning of a beautiful new journey!
I say it every time and will continue to say it, I absolutely love sharing and highlighting these women and their wonderful stories.
Today, I’m excited for you to meet Beverly!
Beverly Banister has made Hampton Roads her home for the past 20 years. She has a background in banking and completed coursework in early childhood education. In addition to having a successful career, Beverly is most proud of being a Christian, a wife for over 24 years, a mother, and an entrepreneur. After working in banking for 15 years she transitioned to being a stay-at-home mom and community volunteer.
Beverly and her husband, have raised two thriving children that are now attending college. In the last 10 years, Beverly has started and operated three small businesses and is now helping her two children start their own nonprofits that will serve other young people. Leveraging her background in business and a strong passion for family, Beverly is currently assisting her husband with their three automobile dealerships and counting – Banister Nissan of Chesapeake, Banister Nissan of Norfolk, and Banister Ford Marlow Heights.
Beverly loves being involved in the community that has become her home. As a volunteer, she has utilized her unique skills in event planning and fundraising to assist organizations or causes that impact women and youth including the HER Shelter, St. Jude’s, Union Mission, Elder’s House, and Dream Builders Married 4 Life Walk. Also, in her spare time, she enjoys making crafts and bargain shopping.
The advice she’d like to give the younger generation is “Always remember your worth. Remember someone paid a price for you. Never underestimate what that means. You are priceless! And when you become a mom teach your children the same. Always give God some of your time, remain humble and be a good steward of what you receive.”
A myth she’d like to bust about being over 40 is “After 40 it’s all downhill from there? I’m actually well over 50 and after this photo session and spending time with Tamara. That myth couldn’t possibly be true. Before this photo session, I felt invisible, inadequate useless, and plain. Afterward, I felt beautiful, soft, even a little sexy, and I could actually see ME again.”
When I asked what this session meant to her she said, “I actually contacted Tamara for headshots. But after talking to her about 40 over 40. I did some thinking and realized this photo session came at a transitional time in my life. I had moved my last child out of our home and into her college dorm. Though she was only minutes from home it was still difficult for me. My husband went out of state for business and suddenly I was alone in what seemed to be a HUGE house, my voice echoed as I called for our dog. I went for my daily 2-mile walk and talked to God the entire time. I said to him “ ok God what now? I have raised my children, my husband is out of town on business, what do I do now?
My Answer was to find me and learn to love me again. When I returned from my walk I felt a calmness, a peace that let me know that this was the journey that I needed to take. So this photo session is the beginning of this beautiful new journey for self-love and acknowledgment. I cant wait to see what God has planned for this Wife and Mom of two college students.”
I can’t wait to be a witness to how God will use you in this new season of your life. Thank you for choosing me as your photographer. May these photos be a constant reminder of the strength and beauty you possess and may you continue to spread light wherever you go.
Much love,
Tamara
